Subsidy Benefits of PM Suriya Ghar Yojana
Technically both are the same, but now the benefits of this subsidy have been increased. And it has been made a new scheme. For example, earlier you used to get a subsidy of 18,000 for 1 kW solar panel. Now you have increased it to 30,000. Which has now been increased to 60,000.On 3 kW, this has gone from 54,000 to 78,000. So basically in the new scheme, the maximum subsidy has been capped at 78,000. Whether you use a 4 kW solar panel or 10 kW, the maximum subsidy you will get is 78,000.
Solar Panel Capacity for Your Home
kW solar panels will be enough for your house1 kW, 2 kW or 3 kW .For this, the government has given a separate guideline based on the consumption of units in one month. If your consumption is up to 150 units, then you will have a panel of 1 to 2 kW sufficient. Now, roughly from 1 kW, 4 to 5 units of electricity are generated every day.
So according to us, 1 kW is sufficient for up to 120 units. If your consumption is from 120 to 240 units, then a 2 kW panel should be sufficient. And for 240 to 360 units, a 3 kW panel should be enough. If you apply for this, you will get an option to upload an electricity bill. According to that, you will get an auto-recommendation of the size of the solar panel you want.

Net Metering and Its Costs
So this process can be quite long and it could take a few months. As soon as your solar panel is installed, you will have to install a net metering arrangement.

How to Work
If your panel generates more than 300 units and your consumption is not that much. For example, your panel generates 350 units but your consumption is only 300 units.
In this case, your 50 units will be transferred to DISCOM and you will get credit for these units. You can use this credit in the future. So if you ever need an extra 100 units in the future, you can easily borrow this credit from them. But no one will tell you that your net metering setup will also cost you a minimum of Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000.
Install a Solar Panel or Not
Installing a 2 kilowatt solar panel and electricity cost in your state is Rs 6 per unit. So on an average, you would consume 120 units in a month. Right now, your electricity bill would be around Rs 700 to Rs 750. And your annual expense would be Rs 9,000. Your electricity bill also increases every year but I am ignoring it for now. So if you install a solar panel, you will get a subsidy of Rs 60,000 from the government.
If you look at the installation cost per kilowatt, as per the government it is Rs 50,000. But this is not right. This would have been right if you were installing a very big unit. But this cost will increase on a solar panel of 1 to 2 kilowatts. You could pay anywhere around Rs 75,000 to Rs 80,000. Let’s assume this to be Rs 75,000. So your expense for installing a 2 kilowatt solar panel was around Rs 1.5 lakh. Rs 60,000 is the subsidy of the government and Rs 90,000 is your own expense.
Future Prospects
And after a year or two, the electricity rate will increase which will obviously rise. So this time will significantly come down. As per government, this time will be 6 to 7 years. But in small size panels, it could take a little longer than that. But the point is that after that, your electricity will be free. If you assume the life of a solar panel to be 25 years, then you will have electricity free for 10 years.
